A multi-functional design that highlights the elegance and ingenuity of contemporary French design.
Launched in 2016, French Design Incubator aims to promote the best in French furniture design by pairing designers with local manufacturers. The initiative puts a focus on both the talent of the designers and on the importance of short production chains. In 2018, the project led to eight collaborations, while in 2019, that number rose to 12. Designed by Bastien Chapelle in collaboration with furniture manufacturer iRESISTUB, Elmer is an elegant and multi-functional storage cabinet and desk. The design features a curved silhouette and a minimalist aesthetic.
The simple cabinet boasts two legs and leans against the wall, occupying minimal space in a room. When closed, the unit looks like an ordinary cabinet that also provides a shelf space at the top. Opened, Elmer transforms into a compact desk with storage areas and a working surface that can easily accommodate a laptop or a sketching notebook. The designer worked closely with iRESISTUB to make the most of the brand’s metal furniture manufacturing expertise. Elmer boasts a black metal frame and legs as well as a wooden door that gives the refined design a touch of warmth. Naturally, its minimalist good looks ensure that it feels at home in any interior, from classic to modern. Photographs© Bastien Chapelle, iRESISTUB.
