A minimalist mouse inspired by the curves of sand dunes.
Introduced in 1984, Apple’s Macintosh redefined the way personal computers looked, revolutionizing the standard rectangular forms with organic curves and a streamlined design. Fast forward to 2023, and Dune has the potential to do a similar thing for the ubiquitous computer mouse. Designed by Manuel Frasson, Senior Designer at Milan-based Fabio Verdelli studio, Dune is a stunning minimalist mouse that transforms the utilitarian object into a high-end design piece and decorative desk accent. Like the name suggests, the mouse takes inspiration from the organic forms and elegant curves of a desert’s sand dunes. Here, the rounded shape is also ergonomic, providing a more comfortable user experience.
Deep ridges give the mouse its distinctive look. At the same time, they also give more depth to the copper or blue color of the material. A subtly elevated ridge that resembles a small mound marks the only button, placed at the front, in the center. To keep the clean look of this minimalist mouse intact, the designer created Dune as a wireless product. Finally, the slightly translucent material with a polished finish reflects and refracts the light, creating a play between light, shadow, and different hues. This minimalist mouse looks great in both copper and blue, the two colors proposed for the design. While currently only a concept, Dune will hopefully become a reality in the near future.
