A portable machine that brings the coffee making experience to any space, including outdoors.

Inspired by the idea of coffee as a daily companion, designer Koichi Futatsumata has reimagined the classic coffee drip machine with both portability and ease of use in mind. To complete this project, the designer worked closely with Japanese brand UCC UESHIMA COFFEE, who specializes in coffee products, and WELCOME, a lifestyle brand focused on food and design. Drip Pod Youbi is a capsule-type coffee drip machine that exits the traditional kitchen setting to enter other areas of the home, from the living room and home office to an outdoor living space like a garden, terrace or balcony. The name refers both to easy to use products and to beautiful designs that become a part of daily living. Featuring subtle curves in a square shape, this machine is as elegant as it is practical.

To make the Drip Pod Youbi coffee machine as portable as possible, the team redesigned the unit with new internal configurations which included the relocation of the heater on the bottom for a more stable weight balance. Compact and lightweight at 3.4kg, or 7.5lbs, the machine also boasts a large handle for easy carrying. The slender handle stands above the LCD panel, letting plenty of light through and allowing users to see the controls at a glance. Horizontal piping not only adds a stylish accent to the minimalist design, but also adds a tactile feel to the lid and removable parts.

Function meets modern style in a coffee maker designed to be by your side anywhere.

While designed for capsules, this drip coffee machine allows users to brew ground coffee thanks to a special filter that fits inside the capsule holder. Whether ground at home with a manual coffee grinder or bought from the store, making regular coffee is easy with the Drip Pod Youbi. Plus, a custom app offers a convenient way to brew coffee from a distance using a smartphone. Other features include a tank capacity of 700ml or around 23.6 fl oz, a quiet level of operation at 34.7dB, and a touchscreen with settings for the extraction method, amount of coffee, and more.

Perfect as a gift for coffee lovers, the Drip Pod Youbi coffee machine comes in several colors that range from classic Midnight Black and Steam White to muted Soil Brown, Lacquer Red, and Botanical Green. Photographs © UCC Ueshima Coffee Co.
