DesignByThem’s Cabin Range

Australian brand DesignByThem aims to create products that strike a balance between playfulness and function, with a touch of Bauhaus inspiration also added to the mix. The recently launched Cabin Range embodies the brand’s mission perfectly. Designed by the two founders, Nicholas Karlovasitis and Sarah Gibson, the collection takes cues from the classic log cabins. “The inspiration for the design came from the simple intersecting patterns found in log cabin construction. We wanted to reference this and apply the cylindrical geometries to create a playful range that was welcoming, flexible, distinctive and had a sense of character,” explains Nicholas Karlovasitis.

The furniture range includes armchairs, lounges and ottomans, all featuring a distinctive aesthetic and adjustable sections. “It all began with a series of cylinders. We then deconstructed the cabin arrangement into a lounge and armchair, experimenting with various diameters until we found a size that was comfortable for both the back and armrests,” says Sarah Gibson. As a result, the collection provides a perfect combination of creativity, modern style and comfort. The functional seating also looks at home in a wide range of interiors, from living spaces to offices.

Adjustable lumbar support and interchangeable armrests dividers enhance the functionality of the designs. The lounges and armchair come with a removable log module on the backrest, while the longer lounges also have the option to divide the seating with armrests. The imposing Cabin Booth comes in different heights and layouts. It’s ideal for spacious – and busy – open-plan areas, as it provides an ideal acoustic barrier as well as privacy. All of the products from the Cabin Range are available in a rage of colors, fabrics and leathers. Photographs© Pete Daly. Images courtesy of DesignByThem.
