A creative genius combination of photography, drawing, sculpture and video brings us “Deep North” by Chris Larson. Everything is frozen. Dishes remain unwashed in the sink, a place is set at the table, flowers at the windowsill, reading glasses sit next to an opened book, all covered with a solid layer of ice. You can’t help but be amazed at the destruction of this natural tragedy. The artist has brought us so close to the freezing temperatures, it makes you shiver just imagining the quietness within the walls of this icy place. It seems as though the machine has invaded the home and completely taken over. Arms of the machine are visible from almost any angle, breaking through walls, fragments left lying on floor from being overworked. The wooden machine sculpture is together in the center of the display so you can see what it would look like if not disassembled throughout the house. The artist could be portraying the potential damage there is on human’s over-dependancy on machinery. Or possibly it could be saying how industrial monsters can affect us unknowingly as we go about our everyday lives.
