David Ryle’s Space Coast Series

View all 14 Photos

Space Coast, a series of photographs by David Ryle, brings extraterrestrial exploration to the beach. Ryle’s pictures frame astronauts against blue skies, pair shuttles with palm trees, and show space travel beckoning to middle-class tourists. Perhaps more realistic than they at first seem, the images compare the sea to a galaxy of wonder and suggest that, in the not-so-distant future, travel outside earth’s atmosphere will sound as ordinary as an oceanside vacation.
