Christopher Kurtz was born in 1975 in Missouri. After studying sculpture at the Kansas City Art Institute and Landscape Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design Career Discovery Program, he received a BFA in sculpture from The New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in New York. Following the completion of his studies, he worked as a studio assistant for renowned artist Martin Puryear. Christopher Kurtz opened his own studio in 2005 in Hudson Valley, New York. His work includes both sculpture and furniture design. Working in wood or metal, the artist and designer creates elaborate, fluid, and dynamic sculptures as well as understated furniture that blends subtle artistic forms with function. Regardless of medium, traditional craftsmanship and a hands-on approach bring his designs to life. Kurtz has received various awards and prestigious grants. His work has also been included in several private and public collections.
