Aldo Bakker

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Aldo Bakker was born in 1971 in the Netherlands. He grew up in a creative family - his parents are Emmy van Leersum and Gijs Bakker, both visual artists and jewelry designers. Gijs Bakker also co-founded renowned conceptual design brand Droog. While Aldo Bakker did attend classes at the Design Academy Eindhoven, he left school and rejected formal arts and design training. Instead, he became an autodidact and went on to work in design and jewelry studios to hone his skills. In 1994, he established his own design firm. Organic, bold, and idiosyncratic, his work defies and challenges the norm with unexpected forms and unconventional silhouettes. Aldo Bakker has received many awards for his work, including the Interior Innovation Award Cologne and the Masterclass Rijksstudio Award. His designs and unique pieces have been included in the collections of museums like MoMA, Cooper Hewitt, Victoria & Albert Museum, and Centre Pompidou.
