A capsule collection of eco-friendly sneakers made from apples.
Since 2001, Los Angeles-based brand CLAE has been making beautifully designed footwear collections that are as versatile and comfortable to wear as they are eco-friendly and durable. Apart from a permanent range of minimalist sneakers and running shoes, the company also collaborates with other brands to launch limited-edition designs. In 2022, CLAE introduced the brand’s first locally produced shoe, the sustainably made Louie. A year later, the company enhances its eco-friendly offerings with the innovative Appleskin™ Sneaker Capsule Collection. Seamlessly merging minimalism and sustainable design, the vegan sneaker range comprises the popular Bradley, Malone, Joshua, and Ellington silhouettes, but in exceptionally environmentally conscious versions.
All styles feature uppers made from the same bio-based material. Aptly named Appleskin™, this sustainable material is crafted from repurposed apple waste sourced from the juice industry in Italy. Soft and supple, the uppers retain the essential characteristics of leather, but lower the carbon footprint of the sneakers considerably. Additionally, all styles features other eco-friendly elements. Apart from GRS-certified recycled mesh, laces and foam, the shoes also feature GOTS-certified organic cotton linings.
You can find the range in two colorways. The Off-White hue references the flesh of apples and the texture of their skin, while the Triple Black versions take inspiration from the rare black apple. Finally, the Ellington shoe comes in Triple Black only. The CLAE Fall/Winter 2023 Appleskin™ Sneaker Capsule collection is available now in the brand’s online store and in selected shops worldwide, with prices ranging from $140 to $180. Photography © CLAE.
