A traditional timepiece with a contemporary design.
Deeply anchored in tradition but made with a contemporary design, the stylish Cherwell watch bridges the gap between classic and modern. Designed by UK-based Marloe Watch Company, the timepiece celebrates the university city of Oxford, taking its name from the city’s River Cherwell. The words of of British author C.S. Lewis appear on the exhibition case back: “The future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of sixty minutes an hour.”
Apart from its nods to Oxford and he literary world, the watch also features a modern design. The dial boasts two layers; elegant squares mark the minutes on the base layer, while a sunken sub-dial features the second hand and a radial pattern. Polished hands with clean lines complete the timepiece, along with the custom crown. Inside the 43mm case, a hand-wound Sea-Gull ST36 mechanical movement becomes the heart of the watch. At the same time, it adds a gorgeous accent to the design thanks to engravings visible through the case back.
As the perfect finishing touch, the company created a bespoke, handmade box for the Cherwell. It features a precision-milled foam interior and Fedrigoni paper that boasts the brand’s debossed crown icon. A letter pressed message is also included.
