Boat’s House at Millstätter Lake by MHM Architects

View all 8 Photos

It is always a delight to find a salient engineering solution integrated with architectural design. MHM Architects have seamlessly blended the two in the project Boat’s House at Millstätter Lake. Because of docking restrictions at the waterfront, the wooden façade of the building folds down to create an external footbridge, and this same mechanism is used to create a path to the boat moorings right on the water. The transitioning state of the boat house, and the changing relationship it has with the water, is also represented in the floors of the building. The upper floor encompasses relaxation with a solarium and massage rooms while the more functional spaces are on the lower floors, which eventually open up to the water.
