A minimalist chair that pays homage to Billiani’s design origins while referencing Mies Van de Rohe’s “less is more” motto.
Since 1911, Italian brand Billiani has been making beautifully designed and crafted furniture. With the Archetype-A Chair, designer Mario Alessiani pays homage to the brand’s origins, giving a nod to the very first collections of Billiani wooden chairs. Set to make its debut at the 2024 edition of Salone del Mobile in Milan, the Archetype-A series captures the essence of a well-designed piece of Italian furniture: elegant, simple, practical and crafted to last.
Mario Alessiani created the chair with a pared-down aesthetic, following Mies Van de Rohe’s “less is more” motto to eliminate any superfluous elements. Indeed, the Archetype-A Chair stands out precisely because of its thoughtful simplicity. The seat and backrest become the focus, and with them, the user’s comfort. Additionally, the backrest is flexible, leaning backwards for extra support. Both the backrest and the seat have an ergonomic design to enhance comfort further.
Crafted from solid wood, the Archetype-A Chair comes with or without an upholstered seat, and in light or darker finishes. Regardless of materials or colors, all of these chairs are conveniently easy to stack to save floor space. Billiani will present the Archetype-A Chair exclusively at Salone del Mobile in Milan. This year’s edition takes place between Apr 16, 2024 – Sun, Apr 21, and you can visit the brand’s stand in Hall 22. Photography © Mattia Balsamini Studio.
