The Automatic Vintage Lens 2 Watch

A stylish watch inspired by camera lenses.

Launching this September, Automatic Vintage Lens 2 takes the original concept of the AVL1 timepiece to a new level. Designed by Japanese brand TACS, the watches embody the brand’s desire to create lifestyle timepieces that tell a story. In this case, a story which not only appeals to photographers and videographers, but also to lovers of creative design. Both timepieces draw inspiration from vintage camera lenses for their eye-catching design. With AVL2, the company takes the original idea further.

The timepiece features a layered dial that provides an ingenious take on a camera lens and recreates its depth effect. The rotating bezel boasts etching that references traditional lettering on camera lenses, while the minute indicators feature focal length digits in a clever nod to photography. Another camera-related details includes the screw-down crown with a diamond-cut pattern, which also adds texture to the watch. Left exposed, the 21-jewel Miyota 82S0 movement becomes the focus of the dial, allowing the user to admire its intricacy.

The stainless steel casing comes with a sapphire glass cover on both the front and the back. The former boasts an anti-reflective coating for great visibility even under bright lighting, while the latter provides a direct view of the movement. As sturdy as a photo camera should be, the AVL2 watch can handle adventurous lifestyles easily. Thus, it comes with a tough case that guarantees its water resistance up to 10ATM. The Horween calf leather band with quick release straps ensures that the Automatic Vintage Lens 2 timepiece is not only stylish, but also comfortable to wear day after day.

As a final touch, TACS added a metal plate on one side of the watch. This detail offers an easy way to customize the timepiece. The AV2 watch will be available from September 2018, with the brand offering a 30% discount for customers who sign up on the official website. Photographs© TACS.
