The Arc Chair And Armchair

Elegant seating designed with a distinctive arched backrest and refined details.

Created by Alain Gilles for furniture brand Another Country, the new Arc Chair and Arc Armchair have a strong character as well as a refined appearance. Their name refers to the distinctive backrest that makes the design look bold from any angle. Arched in an eye-catching silhouette, the backrest gives the design a powerful presence. At the same time, it creates an elegant shape as it morphs into the top of the back legs. The design also features other creative details, including a dynamic relationship between the rounded form of the back legs and the flattened shape of the front legs. To give the chair a lighter feel, the designer added rails under the seat to elevate it slightly. As a result, the seating area almost seems to float above the front legs.

Made from wood and plywood in Portugal, the Arc Chair and Arc Armchair can also feature an upholstered seat and/or backrest. This option not only enhances seating comfort, but also offers more design possibilities, depending on the fabric’s color and texture. Finally, both of these designs are conveniently stackable, which means that they occupy a minimal footprint in storage. The Arc Chair and Arc Armchair made their debut at this year’s London Design Festival. Alongside Arc, the studio also presented the new Fold Chair and the Ring suspensions for plants, created for Green Mood. Photographs© Alain Gilles.
