During this year’s Milan Design Week April 17-22, Studio appetit will present it’s ongoing project Aphrodisiac, sensual eating by design. As part of the studio’s debut the project will be showcased within the TUTTOBENE exhibition in Via Tortona 31. Using design to transform an object, ingredient or experience into an appetizing sensation. Raising questions about food culture, about why we eat, what we eat, and how we eat. Observing the never ending roles of food in our lives. The variety of projects the studio has produced range from hand crafted and industrial manufactured dishes, edible food displays, through unique cutlery which enhances emotions and interactions, to large scale eating installations as well as lectures and workshops.
Clashing appetite for food with sexual appetite, the project creates an eating experience for two. A series of 5 dishes, each representing a culinary stage in a meal as well as a stage in a sexual encounter.
Each dish embodies a unique approach to eating by itself, but combined they redefine the experience of eating a meal, its purpose, and especially the actual way we eat. The aphrodisiac experience transforms eating from an individual experience that might be shared, to an interaction that cannot happen without the physical cooperation of both partners. Feeding each other, holding the dishes for each other, touching, feeling, and breaking the food together and for one another.
