A Writer and Illustrator’s Studio

View all 12 Photos

Found in Hackney, London, this writer and illustrator’s studio draws from the lighter elements of children’s books and myth. The WSD Architecture design allows light to spill through its cedar slats, such that the studio is backlit at night. During the day, the workspace is flooded with natural light, which shines through the sliding door, windows, and skylight. The pale interior reflects the sun and stars with whitewashed pine and honey-colored smartply. Inside, the space features a reclaimed Belfast sink, a wood stove with a concrete slab hearth, and built-in shelves stocked with books and art supplies. Minimalist and magical, the studio leaves little room for distraction without compromising on comfort and inspiring details.
