A limited-edition watch that tells the time by color.

Launched as part of a special collection that celebrates Ressence’s 10 year anniversary, the Type 1 Squared X Time by Color offers a stylish take on the Belgian brand’s signature dial design. Similarly to other Ressence watches, this limited-edition timepiece comes with the innovative, patented display system that uses moving sub-dials. However, this version also uses color to tell the time more naturally.

Instead of a classic dial, the watch features revolving sub-dials and colored beads that mark different times of the day. For example, mornings have a brighter yellow color while the early evening hours have a blue color. The 48 small ceramic spheres come in four different colors that represent certain time periods: yellow, gray, blue, and black. As a result, the user can easily see the approximate time at a quick glance. Based on research into the way the human brain determines the time of day through color, the design provides a more intuitive way to read the time.

The Type 1 Squared X Time by Color also features a dark olive green dial with a concentric pattern, white hands and numerals, as well as light green and yellow markers. The watch comes with a polished titanium case that measures 41mm in diameter. Designed without a crown, the watch features a winding and time setting on the caseback with the Ressence Compression Lock System. Inside the case, there’s a custom automatic ETA 2892/A caliber movement with a power reserve of 36 hours. Other features include brown Alcantara or olive green straps and titanium pin buckles. Limited to only 40 pieces, this anniversary edition watch costs 21,500 Swiss francs, or around $24,300. Photographs© Ressence Watches.
