An effortlessly chic furniture collection to completely transform outdoor living spaces.

Created in a collaboration between Australian outdoor furniture design studio Tait and Australian and New Zealand-based textile brand Mokum with styling by Steve Cordony, An Australian Outdoor Story sets a new bar for outdoor furniture. The 2019/2020 Summer range brings the elegance and comfort of indoor furniture to gardens, terraces, and pool areas. The collection features 1970s design cues as well as “late-century nostalgia” and a sense of relaxation and calm. Fabrics include lush velvet and textured weaves as well as striking Tropicália-inspired prints. Created by Academy Award winning designer Catherine Martin, who has worked on films like Moulin Rouge and The Great Gatsby, the tropical patterns look like vibrant works of art.

Pared-down and laid-back but refined and sumptuous, the collection includes a wide range of products. Round, fluid forms and cocooning volumes combine with soft fabrics to enhance comfort. Modular seating and a mobile serving cart offer more flexibility and convenience while entertaining guests. Designed by Adam Goodrum, the Trace armchair is a standout piece in the collection, whether in Tropicália or plush green velvet. The line also includes dining chairs, lounge chairs, sun loungers, and a bench.

All of the products from An Australian Outdoor Story can easily withstand the elements, even Australia’s harsh climate. The Mokum fabrics may have the feel of velvet or high-texture weave patterns, but they can handle all weather conditions. Indeed, the textiles are resistant to UV damage and are even suitable for bleach cleaning. Likewise, the low maintenance frames have a hard-wearing, UV-stable powder coat finish to ensure the durability of each product. The collection is available to order now through Tait dealers and showrooms, while the Mokum fabrics are available to pre-order through James Dunlop Textiles. Photography by Robert Walsh.
