A beautifully balanced chronograph watch.

Established in the early 2000s, Dutch watchmaking brand Van der Gang has been making exclusive timepieces since the beginning. The company launched its first watch, the Original, in a limited series of only 250 pieces. Currently, Van der Gang produces around 150 watches per year focusing on the exquisite quality of each timepiece. The Van der Gang 2019 Chronograph showcases the brand’s dedication to creating perfectly balanced, function-focused, and elegant watches.

Using a range of specialty equipment, the brand produces its own components wherever possible. This includes the complications on the movement and the steel case. The latter is crafted from a single block of steel using a wire erosion system. Starting with a block of 1 kg, the company’s workshop makes a case of under 20 grams. After a milling process which cuts all threads and holes, the case undergoes a hand polishing process. The final watch case measures 41mm and features a large crown and two chronograph pushers as well as an extra pusher for the date.

While boasting sub-dials and a range of info, the dial has a clean and uncluttered design. Blue hands stand out against a white backdrop, with the subtle red date window adding a pop of color to the design. A sapphire crystal cover with an anti-reflective coating ensures optimal visibility. At the back, a clear case cover offers a great view of the Valjoux 7753 automatic movement which features an in-house developed date complication. The Van der Gang 2019 Chronograph comes in a few different versions, with one model also featuring a moon phase window. Apart from a Cognac alligator leather strap, customers can opt for another type of leather strap or a nylon band. A rose gold version of the timepiece is also available.
