Art, Italians do it better

“Mai Piu:” Glass Sculpture by Arcangelo Sassolino

“Mai Piu” translates as “never,” “never again,” or “nevermore.” Any which way, the sculpture’s title arcanely emphasizes the negative, a curious move for a piece of art so grounded in material. Created by the Italian artist Arcangelo Sassolino just this year, the artwork is composed of a clamp and a stack of glass panes. The tinted blue-green material has an almost watery look to it from afar but is revealed to have sharp-edges up close. “Mai Pui” mounts to the wall and can be adjusted so that the cubic shape transforms into a hazardous tangle of shards.
