A modernized version of the influential 1960s dive watch.
One of the most influential watches of the 1960s, the Aquastar Deepstar featured a distinctive design with a simple mono sub-counter dial, multiple dive decompression bezel table, and a small running indicator. For 2020, the Swiss brand launched a modernized version of the timepiece that preserves the character of the original. The 2020 Aquastar Deepstar faithfully recreates the ‘60s timepiece but adds some new touches. The new version keeps the proportions of the original as well as the dial’s design and functionality.
Measuring 40.5mm, the stainless steel case features the patented bi-directional rotating bezel and a domed AR triple-coated sapphire crystal. Custom-made by La Joux-Perret for Aquastar, the high-end Swiss automatic chronograph movement has 28 rubies and a 55 hour power reserve. The watch is water-resistant up to 200m or 656ft. In terms of practical features, the 2020 Aquastar Deepstar has a stop watch sub-counter as well as a multiple dive non-decompression table calculator that follows the French Navy dive tables. Finally, this timepiece boasts Super-LumiNova coatings for extra visibility in low-lighting conditions.
The watch comes with two strap options: an original Tropic rubber strap and a Horween leather strap. Both straps feature signed Aquastar buckles. Made in limited series of 300 numbered pieces, the watch has a pre-order price of $2,790 but will cost $3,590 in the future. The 2020 Aquastar Deepstar watch comes in three colors: Vintage Black, Blue Ray, and Steel Gray. While the first batch is currently sold out, you can pre-order the second series in January 2021.
