The ‘Truck Art Project‘ is the brainchild of iam Gallery Madrid and businessman and art collector Jaime Colsa. The goal is innovative yet simple: to bring avant-garde art to places where art has not been shown before. Using Colsa’s own transportation company, Palibex, the projects facilitates the creation of unique art objects. Trucks delivering goods across Spain, reaching faraway corners, natural landscapes and highways are now transformed into mobile art. These canvases are almost always in motion, presenting a unique challenge for the artists, along with the large scale of the finished artworks. Seen for a fleeting moment or admired as the trucks are stationary, the paintings catch attention with their color palettes, subjects or striking compositions. Some of the trucks will be revamped into moving galleries, bringing art into smaller towns and offering locals a unique opportunity to get a glimpse at their country’s thriving urban and contemporary art scene. For now, 10 trucks have been painted by some of the more popular contemporary artists in Spain, including Okuda San Miguel, Marina Vargas, Javier Arce, Suso33, Abraham Lacalle, Javier Calleja, and Daniel Muñoz.
But this is only the beginning, as the projects aims to create up to 100 mobile works of art, signed by both well-known and upcoming artists. Even though the first chapter is dominated by painting, drawing and street art, the organizers want to add photography, film and music to the mix, to construct and to display a complete portrait of young Spanish creativity.
