“We don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.” This quotation from George Bernard Shaw has easily become the tagline for Duffy London’s Swing Table. The interior design company, founded by Chris Duffy, shines a new light on what is considered as work and what is deemed as play. Extending from the walnut table is a four-poster steel frame from which hangs eight swings composed of gently folded planes to form the shell of each seat. Though imbued with infinitely more style than a traditional park swing set, the Swing Table still manages to capture the imagination of youth while incorporating a sleek look that is fit for a casual office. The seats hang at a slight angle, providing ergonomic support in its comfortable recline. Even when vacant, the entire piece carries the tranquility of a beautiful mobile, with chairs quietly swinging in response to even the tiniest breeze. The Swing Table comes with the option of a domed, geodesic lamp can be fixed over the table if needed. Whether the buyer’s intention is corporate or domestic, the whimsicality of the Swing Table is sure to bring about a smile, and perhaps inspire individuals as well.
